Patriots one win away from GISD’s first basketball state title

Garland Lakeview Centennial knocked off San Antonio Wagner 87-78 Friday night at the Frank C. Erwin Special Events Center on the University of Texas at Austin campus and secured the school’s first-ever appearance in the Class 5A UIL State Championship game.
Lakeview (33-3) trailed 62-58 as the fourth period began, but relied on their smothering defense to outscore Wagner (38-2) in the fourth, 28-16. Patriot guards Toddrick Gotcher and Chris Jones both had 21 points for Lakeview.Chris Copeland, Bryan Lipsey and Ryan Williams also scored in double figures for the Patriots.
Lakeview faces Fort Bend Bush (34-4) tonight at the Erwin Center in the state title game. Fort Bend knocked off Flower Mound Marcus in overtime, 45-43. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m.
