District Improvement Plan:
Development Process
First and foremost, the 2008-2011 Garland ISD District Improvement Plan focuses on students and the need to provide them with an outstanding education through high expectations and a solid curriculum.
In support of this focus, the district utilizes an instructional staff that is well trained and well supported with partnerships that include families and community members. Student, staff, family, and community relationships are recognized as critical to the current and future success of Garland ISD.
In February 2008, Dr. Curtis Culwell, Superintendent, invited district representatives as well as community, parent, and business representatives to join together and participate in the development of the current District Improvement Plan. The group unified quickly, and all members agreed to condense the new plan into “a plan on a page”.
The committee of forty-five community members first met and reviewed the District’s plan from 2005 - 2008. The group considered the mission statement “Diverse Community, Shared Vision, Exceptional Education”, and decided to keep the statement since it is as appropriate now as it was three years ago.
With an array of the issues facing the district and ongoing accomplishments before them, the committee began the work of identifying the core values, goals and performance measurements for 2008-2011 District Improvement Plan: Diverse Community, Shared Vision, Exceptional Education.
