Ready 1:1 About the iPads

For a digital learner, technology devices are like any other school supply.

Being prepared for class means bringing the iPad to school each day and having it charged.

These devices will behave slightly differently from a personal iPad.

Approved digital resources

Instead of having access to Apple's iTunes Store where commercial apps are available, Ready iPads will provide students with a GISD Self-Service portal. It will provide students access to digital resources that have been aligned with curriculum goals and classroom instruction ensuring that available apps are approved to meet instructional needs.

The iPads will come pre-installed with a standard set of applications. Teachers can request additional class-specific downloads for their students and there will be an approval process before new apps are made available to students.

Since the iPads are intended for instruction rather than personal use, features such as messaging will also be restricted to keep use focused on instructional tasks.

Internet filtering

Inappropriate sites will be blocked on student i Pads.We make every attempt to filter and block inappropriate material.  Filtering will apply to the Ready iPads in any GISD facility and will extend to devices when students take them home or off campus.

However, parents need to be aware that Internet filtering alone is not enough to protect students from inappropriate content or malicious behavior. The nature of the online world is ever-changing, and both teachers and parents have to be vigilant in monitoring students’ online activities to look out for their safety and best interests.
