Students, staff win It's Time Texas health challenge

Thanks to the participation of staff and students, Garland ISD won the 2017 It’s Time Texas Community Challenge large school district category. The City of Garland also won first place in the large community category for a second-consecutive year.

"Earning the top spot and the most points of all participating school districts is a great accomplishment and really shows the momentum we have for health and wellness here in GISD," said Employee Wellness Coordinator Liz Kiertscher. "PE Coordinator Louise Gartrell and I worked together to promote the challenge, encourage participation and engage with our community."

Garland ISD and the City of Garland were both recognized at the It’s Time Texas awards ceremony in Austin. Northlake Elementary School PE teacher John Beltz was also featured in a video by the organization for his efforts during the challenge. Watch it now on YouTube.
