Business Education

business career prep student imageThe overall purpose of Business Education is to provide students with the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to become a productive member of society.   This is accomplished through secondary business courses that provide students the opportunity to acquire occupational skills necessary for a business career, preparation for further instruction in higher education and to participate in work-based experiences.

Students may earn college credit through local articulation agreements with the Dallas County Community Colleges, participate in a career preparation program and earn the industry-recognized Microsoft Office Specialist or IC3 certifications while taking Business Education courses.   Real world experiences are practiced in business classes as students learn problem-solving skills, how to work in teams, develop business communication skills and research career opportunities available.

Students are provided opportunities to work with the latest business software and technologies.   Students in the Garland ISD Business Education program utilize the Microsoft Office 2003 suite, which includes Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher.   Students participating in the Business Career Preparation program combine classroom instruction and paid on-the-job training.   This program utilizes computer labs equipped with Microsoft Office 2003, Dreamweaver and Flash.
