Health Science Technology
The Health Science Technology Program in Garland ISD provides students the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to make informed career choices in the health field.
Partnerships with health care facilities and area hospitals such as Baylor Medical Center at Garland and Dallas, Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Vista Hospital, Mesquite Community Hospital, Medical City Dallas Hospital, Doctors Hospital of Dallas, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas, UT Southwestern University Hospitals & Clinics (St. Paul & Zale Lipshy), Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Chidren, Richardson Regional Medical Center, Garland Police Department--Forensics, Christian Care Center and Rowlett Nursing Home provide students with valuable hands-on experiences and observe professionals working in the healthcare field so students learn to deliver safe, effective, efficient, quality health care.
In addition, students will be given the opportunity to earn certifications in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), EKG Technician,Medical Coding, Certified Personal Trainer and Pharmacy Technician upon completion of certain requirements.
Opportunities for leadership and citizenship development are available through membership and participation in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). This student organization provides opportunities for leadership development, knowledge and skill recognition through the competitive events program, and community service projects.
