Middle School Career and Technical Education
Exploratory Technology Education provides seventh and eighth grade students broad experiences with a large variety of materials, tools, and processes associated with industry and technology. The first year program for seventh and eighth grade students includes the three (3) technology clusters of communication, energy/power/transportation, and manufacturing. Exploratory Technology Education classes at Bussey, Hudson , Jackson , Lyles, Sam Houston, and Schrade Middle Schools consist of modular technology labs. Students at these campuses will experience computer application instruction in the different technology clusters listed above.
Skills for Living provides opportunities to explore family relationships and personal development, personal management, and planning for the future. Emphasis is on the importance of the family, effective communication skills, management skills, decision making, acceptance of responsibility, and child care practices that promote positive development. This one-semester course is offered to seventh and eighth grade students.
Career Connections is designed as an introduction to a variety of career opportunities through a study of occupational clusters. Students will identify basic academic skills necessary for careers. Students will also gain an awareness of how change in technology, economics, and society impacts career opportunities. Career planning through career interest and ability assessment as well as job acquisition skills is a component of this one-semester class.
