Technology-enhanced learning with a special emphasis on Math and Science
Beaver and Watson Technology Centers for Math & Science are schools designed to attract students with a high interest in math, science, and technology. All subjects are taught with a heavy emphasis on classroom use of technology and hands-on problem solving. Students enjoy enriched learning opportunities such as planting in the greenhouse, forecasting the weather via the weather station, and studying the stars in the portable planetarium.
- 75 percentile+ on reading and math achievement tests
- Pass all sections of STAAR
- Report card grades of 85+ in math and science
- No serious discipline problems
Qualifying students are entered into a lottery, and openings are filled by applicants in the order in which they are drawn. Students who wish to continue their MST experience after completing fifth grade are accepted into Jackson Technology Center for Math & Science provided all qualifications continue to be met.
Garland ISD elementary MST program named an Apple Distinguished Program for 2012-13
It's one of only 103 programs nationwide, and the only elementary program in Texas to receive this distinction.

Students entering kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year that are interested in magnet programs should complete the online application.
New students to GISD entering grades 1-5 for the 2015-16 school year that are interested in magnet programs should complete the online application.
Currently enrolled GISD students in Grades K-5 who meet minimum qualification criteria will receive a magnet letter in the mail that indicates what magnet programs the student qualifies for based on current data.
