Visual Arts Classes

Woodcarving

carvingHands-on introduction to basic woodcarving. You will learn five different types of carving techniques, basic safety, tool sharpening techniques, different types of tools and types of wood. You will complete two projects in this class. Some of the techniques you will be learning are wood spirit, relief, canes (walking sticks), and more caricature.

Note: Be prepared to pay $100 cash on first day of class for supplies unless you already have them.

Watercolor Painting

During this 6 week course you will discover the fun and ease of watercolor painting. You will learn a variety of different techniques and approaches to successful painting. You will learn blending and color mixing, using washes and unique brush strokes as well as a variety of other artistic fundamentals. We will also learn more on compositions and look at lights and shadowing. Finally you will advance to a level where you will create beautiful watercolor paintings you are sure to be proud of!

Please bring:

  • Watercolor paints
  • #1 inch flat brush
  • #2 and #6 round brushes
  • 140 lb Arches watercolor paper

(teacher will have quarter sheets available for $1.00 per sheet)

Oil Painting

Bring your own photos or I will supply some. I will help you choose one that will make a good painting. Good design, rich color, wide range of values, light and your own style will be stressed. When you finish one painting start another one. Come enjoy a night out and get creative! Bring an apron to each class. A supply list will be provided for you on the first night of class.

ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF CLASS BRING:

  • A photograph that you would like to paint
  • A 16x20 canvas
  • A pencil
  • An eraser

Stained Glass for Beginners

This introductory class covers the basic techniques of stained glass using the exciting art of the Copper Foil (Tiffany) method of design. Students will learn all the necessary skills for working with patterns, glass selection and cutting, soldering, framing and finishing. Students will complete a small stained glass window and leave with knowledge so they can continue in this art.

Note: Students will need to plan to spend $200 - $250 for supplies. A materials list will be provided.

Intermediate Stained Glass

Students will need to have previous experience working with stained glass and have basic tools (i.e. cutter, grinder, etc.). This class covers the lead technique of stained glass design. Students will learn all the necessary skills for working with lead, putty and whiting agents. Students will complete a small stained glass window and leave with knowledge so they can continue in this art.
