  • Career Orientation
  • Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Health Science Technology

The State Plan for Career and Technical Education 2005-2007 is based on the premise that a rigorous academic foundation contributes to success, that all students should be provided equal opportunities to succeed, and Career & Technical Education should complement and enhance academic preparation by enabling students to apply academic principles and technology skills to a variety of career situations.

The State Plan for Career and Technical Education is based on two (2) goals:

Each public school student shall master the basic skills and knowledge necessary for:

  • managing the dual roles of family member and wage earner; and
  • gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job or continuing the student's education at the postsecondary level.

Our goal is to offer students skill development that meets industry standards and leads to an industry certification when possible. Earning a certification while in high school has many benefits. It gives students a sense of accomplishment, a highly valued professional credential, and helps make them more employable. The following certifications are currently offered in our department:

  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
  • Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • EKG Technician
  • Medical Coding
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Cosmetology Beautician
  • Welding Technician
  • Certified Cisco Network Associate
  • Automotive Collision Technician

These organizations provide an opportunity for students to participate in a variety of activities, community service projects and local, state and national competitive events, which enhance the CTE instructional programs. Through these youth leadership organizations, students have the opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills.
