Academic Decathlon
Seven Garland ISD high schools are active participants in the Texas Academic Decathlon program. The Academic Decathlon program began in California as a means of providing academic students the same sort of accolades traditionally given to athletes.
Teams are composed of nine junior and senior students:
- three with “A” averages,
- three with “B” averages, and
- three with “C” averages.
Students complete at the District and Regional levels locally. Competitions consists of ten tests, including:
- Essay Writing
- Speech/Interview
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Economics
- Language/Literature
- Fine Arts
"Super Quiz" is the final event with the students competing one-on-one against their peers in front of cheering fans.
Garland ISD is always well represented at the State Academic Decathlon event as well as serving as host periodically.
Competition dates and locations for 2006-2007 will be posted when the information becomes available.
