School Facilities
The Office of School Facilities oversees the planning, budgeting and construction for all building projects for the District. The GISD Maintenance Department, as part of the Office of School Facilities, is responsible for the operation and repair of the district campuses, special program facilities, and support facilities.
In the fall of 2002, GISD voters approved a $385 million bond program to the District’s growing population. The 2002 Bond Program includes plans for two early childhood centers, three new elementary schools. Also included are numerous plans for additions and renovations to existing schools.
In August of 2005, Couch Elementary, Cisneros Pre-K School and Parsons Pre-K School opened. In August 2007, the district will open two new elementary schools, Liberty Grove Elementary in Rowlett and George Washington Carver Elementary in Garland.
