Formal art instruction is offered at the Katie Yager “Kitchen Values” Graphiteelementary level at Kimberlin Academy, Hillside Academy, Walnut Glen Academy and The Classical Center at Vial. In addition to regular classroom instruction, these campuses also service the students who are gifted in art and music. Art instruction is provided at other elementary campuses by PTA-sponsored art instructors and classroom teachers.

At the middle school level, students are introducedWater Color by Alison Ledbetter "Chapstick" to basic design, methods and materials. Student work in several processes including painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics and printmaking.

In high school, students begin with preliminary art classes, studying two-dimensional design, perspective, drawing, color theory, painting, printmaking, and progressing to three-dimensional design including ceramics, sculpture, and textile. In the News

  • Esther McReynolds, an eighth grader at Bussey Middle School, won first place at the State Fair of Texas with her mosaic of Martin Luther King Jr. Her portrait was made of pennies, crayons and toys. Esther said this piece depicts how Martin Luther King brought a bunch of colors of people together, so it is a bunch of colors that make him up in the picture.

Her art teacher extraordinaire is Kimmy Winnubst.

Our congratulations to Esther and Ms. Winnubst

  • Bussey MS Advanced Art students participated in the school Talent Show in November this year. Art teacher extraordinaire, Kim Winnubust, decided it would be great if other students could see talent unfolding a creation before their eyes. She helped students rehearse for two weeks and then they presented the creation of an owl painting in 6 minutes while the music Heaven by Angels and Airwaves was played. These eighth graders are a talented group and obviously work well together as a team. These are skills they will take to the work place as they graduate from high school in a few years.
