College Entrance Exams

Most colleges require an admissions examination.  These standardized admission tests are the American College Test (ACT) or the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Some colleges will accept either the ACT or the SAT for admission.

There is also the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) which was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The THEA is required if you are enrolling as a full-time or part-time student in a Texas public community, technical college or university.

Some colleges have developed their own instrument in lieu of the THEA

Students may be exempted from taking the THEA as a result of their TAKS, ACT or SAT scores. Requirements for exemption differ between institutions.

Check with your prospective college or academic advisor for test(s) requirements.
