4x4: An Overview
Who Will This Impact:
Any student who entered 9th grade in 2007 or after and is seeking graduation on either the recommended or distinguished plans. What Is 4x4:
4x4 is a plan that the Texas Education Agency implemented to assist students in their academic preparedness and to ensure that students are receiving rigorous and relevant instruction throughout their entire 4 years of high school. Simply put, 4x4 is the requirement for students to complete 4 years of all 4 basic core subjects – English, math, science and social studies.
What Changed With 4x4:
On the recommended and distinguished graduation plans, students previously only had to complete 3 years of math and science and 4 years of English and social studies. This means they now have 2 additional courses required in order to graduate, thus increasing the required credits for the recommended and distinguished plans from 24 to 26.
