Non-Traditional High School Program at Memorial

Non-traditional high school program at Memorial, is an educational program in the Garland Independent School District that is a self-paced, computer based, flexible learning environment designed for over-age, at-risk students or those that do not fit into the traditional learning environment.

APEX, a web based virtual school, is the primary software that students use to obtain the credits necessary to graduate. It is user-friendly and visually interesting yet it is also academically challenging and rigorous. In addition, the learning center offers Garland ISD’s Credit Recovery program through PLATO Pathways.

At the Non-Traditional High School Program, the student to teacher ratio is significantly smaller than that at a traditional high school. With a maximum class size of 15, students are able to receive more one-on-one attention and the teachers can truly access what each student needs.

Potential students are identified at their home campuses by their counselors, teachers, and administrators. Once identified, the students will submit an application and go through an interview process with the principal and counselor. If a student meets all the criteria they will be admitted in to the program.
