Parenting Support Programs

Bilingual Education/English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
The Bilingual/ESL Program offers a Bilingual Education Program in Grades PK-5 and English as a Second Language Programs in Grades PK-12. These programs serve students acquiring English who meet the eligibility requirements. more >>

Community Resource Specialist
GISD provides a Community Resource Specialist as a point of contact for information about available community resources, especially for emergency assistance. Contact Sherion Stribling at (972)487-3198 for more information.

Family Engagement
The Family Enrichment Department strives to provide accurate, up-to-date, and practical parenting and family information in a fun and informative manner through a variey of activities such as parent seminars, staff development and liasion with the Parent Teacher Assocation. more >>

Grandparents Support Group
The Grandparent Support Groups were founded to provide grandparents who are the primary caregivers for their grandchild(ren) with a forum where they can share common experiences, support each other through the challenges that “parenting” presents, and learn about resources available to them. more >>

New Horizons
A program for all pregnant or parenting students (up to age 22) in GISD. The primary goal is to provide these young people with the resources they need to either remain in school or return to school to finish their high school education. more >>

Parents in Partnership/Early Childhood Intervention(PIP/ECI)
PIP, an acronym for Parents in Partnership, is a program founded in 1975 that is targeted to children in the critical developmental time between birth and 36 months of age who are developmentally delayed or at risk for delay based on medical diagnosis. PIP/ECI serves families of all income levels in the Garland ISD communities of Garland, Rowlett and Sachse. more >>

Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a program targeted to parents with children aged between birth and five who reside within the Garland ISD boundaries. The program is founded on the belief that parents are the first teachers that a child will encounter. It is a parent education and family support program that provides parents with child development information, ideas for effective parenting strategies, and a variety of learning activities that they can do with their children. more>>
