FAQ

Many questions have been asked about the Planetarium and its program.  Here are a few answers to some of those questions.

Is the Planetarium open to the public?
No. the Planetarium is only open to the students and faculty of the Garland ISD.  The programs are a supplement to the curriculum of the Garland ISD and are grade-level oriented.  The programs are used for grades 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, and HS Astronomy classes.

Can parents visit the Planetarium when their children visit the Planetarium?
Yes, parents are always welcome to visit the Planetarium when their child’s class visits the Planetarium. Note:  if there is a large group in the Planetarium, parents may end up sitting in the floor!
Who schedules the programs?
The programs are developed, organized, installed by the Planetarium Director.  Each grade level has their own program that supplements the GISD curriculum.  When the school year begins, the Planetarium Director gathers the numbers by grade and figures out how many students there are in each grade and at each school.  Then, the number of programs for each school are determined and a schedule is made out with that information.  It is up to the individual schools to schedule the buses through the TRIPS program for the scheduled programs they receive from the Planetarium Director.
