TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) Spring 2005 Administration

Students in grades 3-11 are administered the state-mandated TAKS tests each spring. Students are tested in two or more of the following academic areas: reading/ELA, math, writing, social studies, and science. Students take the reading assessment in grades 3-9; ELA (English Language Arts) assessments are given in grade 10 and 11; math assessments are given in grades 3-11. The writing test is administered in grades 4 and 7; the social studies test in grades 8, 10, and 11; and the science test in grades 5, 10, and 11. A Spanish-version of each TAKS test is available for students in grades 3-6.

By state law, before a student can receive a diploma from a Texas high school, he or she must pass all four individual exams - ELA, math, social studies and science. If the student fails one or more of the tests, he or she is given several opportunities to retake the test(s) until earning a passing score. Students get their first opportunity to pass during the spring of their 11 th grade year.

The following tables show the percentage of students on each campus not in special education who passed each individual test administered. These charts are based on the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Accountability Report from August 2005. If you wish to review scores for individual grade levels, you may:

  • Contact the Department of Planning, Research, and Evaluation at 972-487-3206,
  • Visit a campus in your neighborhood during open hours and ask to review the most recent Garland ISD AEIS report, which is kept on file in the school’s library.
  • Visit the TEA Web Site to access AEIS information for the past several years for all districts in Texas.
