School Accountability Ratings

The Texas Education Agency has released school ratings for 2007, based on test scores and data compiled at the close of the 2006-2007 school year. In addition to individual ratings for campuses around the state, the agency also rates the school districts.

Districtwide Rating:

  • Academically Acceptable

Exemplary Schools

  • Kimberlin Academy for Excellence
  • Walnut Glen Academy for Excellence
To achieve Exemplary ratings, schools had to meet the following standards:
  • Spring 2007 TAKS test: At least 90% of all students and 90% of each student population group passed each section of the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills test, including Reading/ELA, Writing, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science.
    The student population groups include:
    • African-American
    • Hispanic
    • White
    • Economically Disadvantaged
  • Spring 2007 SDAA II (test for students receiving Special Education services):
    ARD expectations were met on at least 90% of tests taken.
  • Annual Dropout Rate during 05-06 school year:
    0.2% or less of all students and each student population groups. (middle school indicator only)
  • Completion Rate
    At least 95% of students in the class of 2006 graduated, received a GED or continued in school (high school indicator only)

To earn the "Recognized" rating, campuses had to meet the following standards:

  • Spring 2007 TAKS Testing:
    At least 75% of all students and 75% of each student population group passed each section of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test. Subjects included Reading/ELA, Writing, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science.

    • Economically Disadvantaged
  • Spring 2007 SDAA II testing:
    ARD expectations were met on at least 70% of the tests taken.
  • Annual Dropout Rate for 2005-2006 school year:
    meets 0.7% standard or less for all students and each student group OR meets 0.9% floor with required improvement. (middle school indicator only)
  • Completion Rate:
    At least 85% of students in the class of 2006 graduated, received a GED or continued in school (high school indicator only)

    • Social Studies - 65%
    • Mathematics - 45%
    • Science - 40%
  • Spring 2007 SDAA II testing:
    ARD expectations were met on at least 50% of the tests taken.
  • Annual Drop-out Rate 2005-2006
    meets 1% standard or less for all students and each student group OR meets required improvement. (middle school indicator only)
  • Completion Rate:
    At least 75% of students in the class of 2006 graduated, received a GED or continued in school (high school indicator only)

Alternative Education School

Two campuses in Garland ISD are classified as "alternative education" schools, and earned "alternative education acceptable school."
