As many staff members choose to work a flex schedule, please call to ensure the person you wish to speak to will be in the office the day you plan to come.

Block Scheduling

In the spring of 1991, the faculty of North Garland High School noted that with the traditional schedule, students could participate in only seven classes a day, earning seven graduation credits each year. As part of the campus improvement plan, the school elected to try an eight-period block scheduling plan.
Block scheduling is much like a college class schedule. Instead of seven classes a day, five days a week, students participate in four courses per day, alternating between “A” schedule and “B” schedule. Thus, students may take eight courses each semester. With fewer class changes taking place, teachers actually gain teaching time.

The following high schools use block scheduling:
Garland High School
Lakeview Centennial High School
Naaman Forest High School
North Garland High School
South Garland High School

Trimester Scheduling

Two high schools use Trimester Scheduling. Where block schedule has two terms, 18 weeks long (semesters), these schools have three terms, 12 weeks long (trimesters). The number of credits that may be earned in a year's time is a half credit less, but students attend classes on a daily basis, rather than on alternating days.

The following high schools use trimesters:
Rowlett High School
Sachse High School
