Special Education Department
What’s so SPECIAL about Special Education?
In the Garland Independent School District, we believe that all children are entitled to educational opportunities consistent with their ability to learn. Through the Department of Special Education, numerous programs are available for children with disabilities from birth through age twenty-one. The teamwork of our staff of dedicated professionals combined with the support of our community equals a proven track record for success.

Community/Parent Involvement
There are various volunteer opportunities at the local campus level such as PTA, Campus Improvement Team, teacher support and tutoring. The special education department maintains a Community Advisory Committee which is composed of parents, professionals, and other persons in the community interested in the education of students with disabilities. If you are interested, further information can be obtained from the Director of Special Education at 972-487-3300.
Of course, parent involvement is the most important resource the district boasts. It is an essential and vital element of the total education process. Together, parents and the school form a team to provide quality services to our exceptional children.
We’re proud of our programs, and invite you to use the contact information provided if you wish to know more about any area of special education or you feel your child could benefit from the services available.
