Title I, Part A

The purpose of Title I is to ensure that schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families have the resources to provide a high quality education that will enable all children to meet the state’s student achievement standards. Title I focuses on programs that use effective methods and instructional strategies that are research-based.

In Garland ISD, Title I serves 29 elementary schools, and two Pre-K schools. These 31 campuses are schools with high percentage of students who are on free and/or reduced lunch. Title I focuses on program initiatives to eliminate the student achievement gap, the gap that exists between Anglo and minority student populations.  Title I initiatives focus primarily on reading; however, other core content areas are addressed through Title I funding. Funding examples include Literacy Teachers, Pre-K classroom aides, extended day programs, elementary summer school, Bilingual Instructional Support Teachers, integration of technology into the classrooms, and the Parents as Teachers program.
