GISD Enrollment Center
The Enrollment Center is a special office provided by Garland ISD to help students who have a home language other than English enroll in school. The office is a part of the Student Services Department and provides many valuable services for new students and their families. These include:

Hours of Operation
- Monday – Thursday 8:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 4:30
- Friday 8:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 4:00
Summer Hours
Beginning June 8 - August 7, 2009 Student Services will observe the following hours:
- Monday – Thursday 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
- Closed Fridays
Please Note: Student Services will be closed July 6 - 10 and July 28 - 31. We are unable to enroll elementary students in grades Pre-K - 5 during August 3 - 5.
- Extended hours August 10 - 13 and August 17 - 20 until 6:00 P.M.
- Open Saturday August 22 from 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Who should go to the Enrollment Center?
All new students in grades PK-12 who indicate on the Home Language Survey section of the enrollment form that they speak or are exposed to another language at home should go to the Enrollment Center.
What can Parents expect when they take their sons/daughters to the Enrollment Center?
They can expect to:
- Be greeted by trained staff persons who speak English and Spanish
- Be assisted in completing enrollment documents
- Have their son/daughter assessed in English (and Spanish, if appropriate)
- Be provided information about appropriate programs and participate in the decision about placement
- Be given information about immunization procedures if needed
- Be put in contact with the liaison for the Migrant Program, if appropriate
- Leave the center with enrollment fully or partially completed, depending upon records parents bring with them
What records should parents bring to the Center?
- Proof of Residency in GISD*
- Contract/lease agreement or
- Most current utility bill (water, gas, or electric)
*Please note: If you are currently living with another person and the proof of residency is in that person’s name, both you and that person will need to sign a notarized affidavit. This can be done in the Student Services or Enrollment Center offices. - Immunization Records
- Birth Certificate or Affidavit showing Proof of Age
- Report Cards or any type of record from previous school (if available)
- Social Security Card (if available)
*Enrollment cannot be completed without these items.
What should parents know about language testing?
Language testing can take from 45 minutes to three (3) hours depending on the age and ability level of the student. Patrons are served in the order they are received.
How much time does it take to complete the registration process?
The time will vary from 45 minutes to three (3) hours, depending on the age of the student and the type of assessment needed to ensure the best possible placement for the student.
During peak enrollment periods in August and March, it may be necessary to come to the Enrollment Center and secure an appointment for a later date to complete enrollment.
