Food Service Announces Continuance of Federally Subsidized Programs
Article Date: August 25, 2009
The Garland Independent School District announced the continuance of a popular policy involving food assistance programs subsidized through the federal government.
According to GISD’s Food Service Department, the district will maintain its policy of providing free and reduced-price meals for qualified students unable to pay the full price for meals served under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Copies of the policy are available through the Food Service Department and may be reviewed by interested parties.
Free and reduced-price meal application forms will be printed in both English and Spanish, and sent home with all students after school begins. Additional copies will be available at the Food Services Department and in the office of each campus. Applications can be submitted throughout the school year.
To apply, an adult household member should complete the form and return it to either location. All information is confidential. Students already receiving food assistance through direct certification need not apply.
