TEA Recognizes 49 GISD Schools With Gold Performance Acknowledgements
Article Date: November 6, 2007
In recognition of their high academic performances, 49 campuses within the Garland Independent School District received one or more Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPA) from the Texas Education Agency last month.
The GPA system identifies school achievement on TAKS scores at two levels. The first – Commended Acknowledgement – recognizes schools with students who have scored significantly above the state passing standard and have demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of knowledge and skills. To be eligible, at least 25 percent of a school's student population must score at or above the state’s Commended Performance level on the TAKS test in a particular subject area.
The second – Comparable Improvement Acknowledgment – calculates improvement in student performance on the TAKS test from one year to the next and compares the findings with 40 demographically similar schools. To be eligible, a school's average Texas Growth Index must be in the top-25 percent of its 40-member school comparison group.
Gold Performance Acknowledgements utilized TAKS scores from the 2006-07 school year. As a district, GISD was acknowledged for attendance and earned a Commended rating in social studies. Campuses received a total of 146 acknowledgments, seen on the following table:
