Board Notes: November 15, 2007

Garland ISD Trustees were entertained by Garland High School's Theta Nu Sigma step team at last night's school board meeting in the Harris Hill Adminstration Building.

The group of talnted youngsters was recognized with the school board's Evidence of Excellence award for its tireless dedication and hard work in representing GISD.

In other agenda items, GISD Trustees:

  • Conducted a public hearing on the taxation of goods-in-transit made exempt by House Bill 621
  • Received 2007-08 No Child Left Behind Performance Report of highly qualified teachers
  • Heard principal's report from Dr. Bonnie Barrett, principal of Parsons Pre-K Center
  • Reviewed September and October 2007 tax reports
  • Reviewed grade point average (GPA) calculation formula
  • Approved the proposed 2008-09 School Calendar on first reading
  • Received overview of proposed changes to transportation routes for 2008-09 school year
  • Considered revisions to legal board policies included in TASB Update 81
  • Reviewed calendar of events
  • Discussed future agenda items
  • Approved minutes from Nov. 1, 2007 regular Board of Trustees meeting
  • Approed tax refunds
  • Approved a resolution providing for taxation of goods-in-transit which are exempt from taxation under HB 621
  • Approved purchase of remote audience response systems; food service uniforms; TAKS Intervention Programs; hand soap and dispensers; new replacement vehicles; digital signage; computer workstations; shirts, T-shirts, uniforms and miscellaneous apparel (second-year option).
  • Approved renewal of property insurance
  • Approved proposal from Corgan Associates Inc. for multiple site renovation projects, and assessment and architectural services
  • Approved resolution for the construction delivery method of the door project for multiple campuses
  • Approved resolution for the construction delivery method of the six-tennis-court addition at Garland HS.
  • Approved course changes for 2008-09.
