Article Date: October 4, 2007
Representatives from Lakeview Centennial High School delighted board members Thursday night as they presented the school’s report on its 2007 Freshman Academy Summer Camp to Trustees and GISD administrators.
The pilot program successfully introduced incoming LCHS freshmen to fellow students, teachers and staff members through field trips and interactive sessions.
Trustees also honored two more district representatives with its new Evidence of Excellence award.
The first honoree, Ana Kovanova, won top prize in this year’s national Americanism Poster Contest, sponsored by the Garland chapter of Sons of the American Revolution. The recent Russian immigrant was a student at Watson Technology Center for Math and Science last year and represents Garland SAR’s first winner at the state and national levels.
Paul Reyna, a science teacher at Schrade Middle School, was recognized for being named a finalist for Texas State Teacher of the Year, sponsored by the Texas Education Agency. Reyna, also named the Region 10 Teacher of the Year, is the first GISD employee to claim either of those awards.
