Food Services Announces Continuance of Federally Subsidized Program
Article Date: August 6, 2008
Garland Independent School District announced the continuance of two policies involving food assistance programs subsidized through the federal government.
According to Garland ISD’s Food Service Department, the district will maintain its policy of providing free and reduced-price meals for qualified students unable to pay the full price for meals served under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Garland ISD will also continue Direct Certification for district students receiving assistance from either Food Stamps or Temporary Aid to Needy Families.
Copies of both policies, which may be reviewed by interested parties, are available through the Food Service Department.
Free and reduced-price meal application forms will be printed in both English and Spanish, and sent home with all students once school begins. Additional copies will be available in the office of each campus and can be submitted throughout the school year.
Households that qualify for the Direct Certification program will receive letters prior to the start of the school year.
