The Dallas/Fort Worth MPI chapter, which represents the sixth-largest division in the world, made its announcement at the group’s Awards Gala last month. In claiming the honors, GISD’s multifunction facility finished ahead of the Adolphus Hotel and the Marriott-Las Colinas.

Facilities are nominated and scored through monthly evaluation forms based on food and beverage, service, and overall program needs.

“We are very honored to win this prestigious MPI award,” said Tim Mabe, general manager of the SEC. “We were up against elite competition and truly feel that our team efforts with our internal Special Events Center team, coupled with our partners at Conference Hospitality Group, helped us shine.”

The Special Events Center opened in 2005 as the first ISD-owned multifunction facility in North Texas. It caters to small- and medium-sized events while combining the features of both full-sized convention centers and hotels.

The structure boasts a 7,000-seat arena in addition to a full conference center which includes a ballroom, tiered lecture hall and breakout meeting rooms.
