Larry Williams, the outgoing director of auxiliary human resources, was recognized for his 36 years of service to GISD with the annual award that represents a life of dedicated service to district students and staff.
Williams began his lengthy tenure in the district as a teacher and coach at Garland High, his alma mater. He then left the classroom for the office, becoming an assistant principal at GHS.
From there, he entered central administration as an attendance administrator. Experience garnered from that role paved the way to his final district appointment in HR, which he has occupied for 15 years.

School Board President Linda Griffin presented Evidence of Excellence awards to 12 students from GISD’s two Pre-Kindergarten campuses – Cisneros and Parsons. The students read excerpts from books studied in class. Awards were presented based upon the four-year-olds’ remarkable ability to comprehend language and reading skills at such a young age.
Vicki Griner, an ESL aide at Park Crest ES, was also honored as the 2008 Jan Burleson Memorial Scholarship winner. The $500 amount will be applied toward pursuit of a bachelor's degree.
