Trustees Canvass Election, Officially Name New Board Member

The results of this month’s Garland ISD school board election were made official last night at the Harris Hill Administration Building as Trustees met in a special session to canvass the ballots.
Dr. Cindy Castaneda – an administrator at Richland College – was formally named GISD’s newest Trustee by the quorum of board members present, who were joined by Superintendent Curtis Culwell. She will be sworn in at the next regularly scheduled board meeting, set for Thursday, June 5.
Three candidates were on the school board ballot this year, all vying for Place 4. Castaneda defeated Jeff Johnson and Stephen Stanley to earn the spot made vacant by the death of longtime Trustee Rick Howard.
Vice President Scott Luna ran unopposed and retained his spot in Place 5.
