Football Wrap-Up: Week One
Article Date: September 2, 2008
Garland ISD schools began the 2008 high school football season on a blistering pace, establishing a 6-1 districtwide mark as pigskin fever spread across Texas last weekend.
District 10-5A, comprised entirely of GISD’s seven high schools, notched impressive wins over schools scattered throughout the Metroplex. South Garland – which has the daunting task of replacing District 10-5A’s all-time leading passer Nick Florence (Baylor) – was the only team to lose its opener, 41-10 to Coppell Thursday night.
Rowlett’s Dexter Imade totaled 171 yards on 21 carries and quarterback Scott West threw for 225 yards, leading the Eagles to a 34-33 overtime victory against North Mesquite on Friday. The two teams put on an offensive clinic, combining for 43 first downs and almost 900 total yards.
