Football Wrap-Up: Week Three

What began as a marquee match up between two top-15 teams quickly turned one-sided as Garland Naaman Forest used a brutal ground game to pound out a 34-13 victory over Mesquite Friday night at Williams Stadium.

Naaman Forest (3-0) running back Jonathan Miller sent an early message, rushing for 186 yards and four TDs in the first half. The University of Oklahoma commitment finished the night with 215 yards and 5 TDs.

The Rangers made their game plan known early on. With the offensive line trapping and pulling, Miller scored on runs of 1, 5, 73 and 47 yards on th e first four series. Naaman averaged 6.7 yards-per-carry while limiting Mesquite (2-1) to negative yardage on the ground.

Naaman defenders dropped Skeeter quarterback Luke Halpin five times and applied heavy pressure all night. Halpin’s 193 yards passing was his lowest output of the season. The junior threw for more than 600 yards in Mesquite’s first two games.

The Rangers are ranked No. 6 in the Dallas Morning News area poll.
