Garland used a strong second half and solid defensive effort to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat Abilene Cooper 28-14 Friday night at GISD’s Williams Stadium.
The Owls (4-0) struggled offensively in the first half while Cooper – ranked No. 8 in Class 4A polls – managed two touchdowns. The first came following a 70-yard drive in the first quarter while the second was a result of a 68-yard interception return.
Garland coaches adjusted at the break and bristled defensively throughout the second half. Linebacker Greg Brown clinched the Owls’ victory with just over one minute left in the game with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown.
