Members of the 2008-09 All-State Band, Orchestra and Choir were recognized for their outstanding efforts by Garland ISD Trustees at Thursday night's board meeting.

Board President Scott Luna presented each of the 13 recipients who were present with Evidence of Excellene awards. Twenty-three students throughout GISD earned all-state honors. They were chosen from a group that began with more than 35,000 students across Texas.

Members of the 2008-09 Texas Music Educators Association All-State group received Evidence of Excellence awards from GISD Trustees Thursday night. Board President Scott Luna presents a certificate to one of GISD's newest all-state recipients.

  • Received information regarding the Dual Credit Program for 2009-10
  • Received information on Early Intervening Services for Special Education
  • Received update on Health Preparedness Issues and H1N1 flu summary
  • Reviewed March 2009 Tax Report
  • Reviewed new Board Policy EHDE (Local) on first reading. Policy regards electronic courses/virtual schools

  • Considered future agenda items
  • Approved minutes of April 16, 2009 board meeting
  • Approved budget transfers and amendments to the 2008-09 adopted budget
  • Approved tax refunds
  • Approved Board Resolution to extend the Depository Contract
  • Approved all matters incident and related to providing for the redemption of certain outstanding "Garland Independent School District Variable Rate Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2004B," including the adoption of an order pertaining thereto
  • Approved declaration and disposal of surplus buses
  • Approved purchase of audio visual equipment, supplies, install (catalog); laptop computers; office supplies (catalog); football equipment and uniforms; multilingual online mathematics courseware; business continuity infrastructure; moving services; middle school math intervention program (third-year option); centralized library management system (third-year option); promotional marketing materials (third-year option); book fairs (second-year option); dish room safety and sanitation service (second-year option); custodial services (third- year option); fire alarm inspection services (second-year option); annual maintenance and equipment for server consolidation and storage area network; Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software maintenance and support services
  • Approved all matters incident and related to "Garland Independent School District Variable Rate Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2004B," including the adoption of an order relating to the conversion of such bonds to a flexible rate period and approving the termination of the existing liquidity facility.
