Garland HS Produces All Nine GISD National Merit Semifinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released its list of semifinalists last month and nine students from Garland High School were chosen to compete against 16,000 of their peers from across the country in the 55th-annual National Merit Scholarship program.

National Merit and National Achievement Semifinalists

Eric Alt, Zachary Byrne, Melanie Maguire, Jaywin Malhi, Julia Park, Samuel Parrill, Bailey Pratt, Timothy Trieu, and Jackson Waggoner will vie for 8,200 scholarships worth more than $36 million to be offered next spring.

Garland High School was the lone campus to represent GISD on the semifinalist level.

Nadia Gidia was also named a semifinalist in the National Achievement® Scholarship Program, which recognizes outstanding Black American high school students.

About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing.
