Board Notes: July 27, 2010

Article Date: July 27, 2010

Garland ISD is once again making the most of its budget and minimizing expenses for the 2010-11 school year as heard by Trustees at Thursday night’s school board meeting.

The proposed budget will increase less than one percent while still allowing an average $500 raise for employees. Trustees will vote on the budget and tax rate – which remains at $1.25 – during next month’s regular meeting. A public hearing is also slated during August.

“Despite the growing financial challenges stemming from our current economic state, we are keeping it the same,” said Curtis Culwell, GISD superintendent, referring to the flat budget. “And we have managed to do all this without increasing taxes in several years. That is becoming extremely difficult based on our current financial structure handed down by the state.”
