Activities: Texas State Boys Program, Garland Youth Council, Garland Owl Varsity Basketball Team, Rotary Club of Garland, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People-Garland Branch
Accomplishments: Lawrence is one of only 700 Texas high school students selected for participation in the 2010 Chapter of Boys State. The select educational program focuses on government instruction for students entering their senior year of high school. Lawrence serves as president of the program’s Senate. He will represent the Texas chapter in Washington D.C. where he will be involved with federal legislative activities.
Lawrence is in his second term on the Garland Youth Council and also serves as a juvenile justice for the City of Garland. In this role he visits municipal court, juvenile court and justice of the peace proceedings to help develop programs aimed at assisting at-risk students.
Aspirations: Lawrence plans to attend Howard University, then pursue a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. His career goal is to become a state senator.
