Austin Academy named Mark of Excellence winner

Continuing a longstanding tradition of excellence, the Austin Academy Honors Orchestra–directed by Jane Samford–is a National Winner in the 2020 Mark of Excellence/ National Orchestra Honors project. This national music competition is sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education and recognizes programs and ensembles for high standards in performance.

Every year, ensembles are judged by nationally respected adjudicators, with the top quarter of participants named as National Winners and the second quarter named as Commended Winners. This year’s competition saw 145 entries from 38 states. Just 13, including Austin Academy, were named National Winners.

“The performance of your ensemble represents the very highest level of music teaching, learning, and performing,” said Alan Hanna, executive director of The Foundation for Music Education in an award letter. “Congratulations on this wonderful achievement!”
