Class of 2019 celebrates success, looks toward bright future

More than 4,100 students culminated 13 years of learning May 30-June 1 at the Curtis Culwell Center. This year’s graduation ceremonies featured student leaders thanking their families, teachers and peers; Superintendent Ricardo López giving words of advice; elected officials encouraging the young adults to follow their dreams; and Trustees officially deeming the former seniors Garland ISD grads. Camera clicks, bright flashes and heartfelt cheers echoed from the stands as graduates walked the stage and into the next chapter of their lives.

Ready for the future, this year’s accomplished class earned more than $50 million in scholarships, in addition to free college tuition through the Dallas County Promise program. GISD alumni will continue their education across the nation, including the California Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Southern Nazarene University, West Point and Yale University. Many will also join the workforce, honing their career skills and contributing to their communities.
