Early College High School (ECHS)

ECHS crestSouth Garland High School is partnering with Eastfield College to offer an Early College High School (ECHS) program to incoming ninth-graders for the 2019-2020 school year. The program is designed to offer students pathways to earn up to 60 college credits at no cost. Students may earn an Associate’s degree and/or certifications while completing high school graduation requirements. Early College High School (ECHS) embeds social/emotional supports throughout the program to support young learners who have the potential to do advanced work.

The goal of the ECHS program is to support and provide educational opportunities for traditionally underrepresented students in higher education including at-risk, low income, English language learners, and first generation students. Interested students should possess a high level of commitment, academic tenacity, and show the potential to do college-level work while in high school.

Students that wish to apply and their parents/guardians must commit to the expectations outlined in the following agreements:

Preferred candidates

The South Garland ECHS will accept up to 125 incoming ninth-graders each year who meet program criteria.

Students must meet the following to be considered:

  • The first in their family to attend college
  • Motivated by taking advanced coursework
  • Want to attend college and willing to work hard
  • Willing to learn college readiness skills and use them daily
