Always striving to be a pioneer in professional development, Garland ISD held its iCon Learning Conference July 25 at the Gilbreath-Reed Career and Technical Center. This unique event is not only a digital learning conference but also an opportunity for teachers to lead their peers in sessions about technology that can be taken back to classrooms across the district.
Attendees had more than 75 PreK-12 sessions to choose from, and they were encouraged to tweet their experiences using #GISDICON and #GISDLearning. Feature presenters included Adam Welcome, Misty Trevino and Kathryn Laster. Welcome spoke about eGaming and YouTube in a student-led classroom, while Trevino discussed the importance of HyperDocs in personalized learning, and Laster dove in to podcasts and the steps required to create them. Other informative sessions and hands-on learning areas included Maker labs, a Twitter lounge, green screen and stop motion technology, coding with Ozobot, 3Doodler and more.
