Going the extra mile - Patricia Salazar

October 2020 recipient

Ms. Patricia Salazar, a second grade bilingual teacher at Southgate Elementary, was nominated by several teachers at her campus for her commitment to the students and families on her campus.

Patricia’s teammates describe her as a phenomenal colleague and educator, a dedicated mentor and nothing short of amazing.  Their nominations provide examples of how she is in-tune with the needs of her students.  Once, she noticed a student struggling with transportation.  Patricia reached out to the family and worked with them to find the correct channels for help with bussing.

Her passion goes beyond the four walls of her classroom.  She eagerly serves as the LPAC teacher representative and helps to identify Pre-K students as English Learners.

Principal Jennifer Fowler says that she is a natural leader and will go out of her way to help anyone unsolicited.  Matter of fact, she says that Patricia does not wait for people to come to her for help, she will go to them.

On top of the passion she brings to her campus every day, the love that she pours into her students, families and staff are evident reasons why she is a true GEM.  Congratulations Patricia!
