Garland ISD recently celebrated nine Class of 2020 graduates who received a total of $22,500 from a business partner, mentor and regular guest speaker at the Gilbreath-Reed Career and Technical Center (GRCTC).
Reina Gutierrez, Linh Hoang, Joshua Knox, Emily Medina, Jaqueline Moreno, Jacquelyn Nguyen, Vy Nguyen, Tianna Ridguard and Michael Talley are the inaugural recipients of the Mary F. Heaney Scholarship, which awarded each $2,500 to further their education in business, marketing and finance. This scholarship money was used for tuition, books and other college expenses.
“That's $22,500 when our students need it most! We are so proud of their accomplishments," said GRCTC principal Coleman Bruman.
While 2020 marked the first year for the Mary F. Heaney Scholarship, there are plans to make it a yearly occurrence.
