Self-nominations for Calendar Committee

We're now accepting nominations for the 2022-23 & 2023-24 Calendar Committee.

Self-nomination guidelines

Positions available

  • GISD community civic servant (3 positions one from each community- Garland, Rowlett, Sachse)
  • Current GISD parent, caregiver, or grandparent (15 positions - 5 elementary parents, 5 middle, 5 high school)
  • Current GISD student (10 positions - 2 per grade level 7th - 11th)

Who can submit nominations?

This year the Calendar Committee will seek nominations from parents, grandparents, caregivers, community members, campus and district leadership. The committee is charged with developing the district calendar for the next two school years.

Nominee expectations

The ideal nominees will possess the following characteristics:

  • Represent the diversity of our district

  • Two (2) years living or working in the Garland, Rowlett, Sachse area

  • Willingness to create and maintain effective lines of communication with a team

  • Willingness to effectively advocate for students and parents 

  • Willingness to comprehensively support the vision and goals of the Garland Independent School District 

Nominees must:

  • Hold all information confidential until the committee has collectively agreed to make the information public

  • Commit to attend all meetings (5 virtual meetings)

  • Be an active participant during all meetings (limit use of devices)

  • Expected Dates of service are September 24, 2021, to December 14, 2021

    • Members may be asked to attend a follow-up meeting during the 2022-23 School Year
