Senior Summit Luncheon honors top Class of 2017 grads

Garland ISD recognized its highest-achieving graduates at the annual Senior Summit Luncheon May 17. The top 10 from each high school, as well as two top seniors from Memorial Pathway Academy, were invited to celebrate with their families and a teacher who most influenced their educational career.

“Students, you have been and will continue to be outstanding scholars. Thank you for the hard work that you put forward,” said Interim Superintendent Deborah Cron in a video message. “As you move to college and the world of work, I want you to take that same drive for achievement and put it there. There is no telling what you can accomplish. The stars are the limit.”

Following Cron’s digital address, Board of Trustees President Linda Griffin congratulated the seniors and spoke about GISD’s commitment to providing exceptional education. A video also featured the graduates detailing their future plans and thanking their influential teacher. Jovan Wells, associate superintendent of curriculum, instruction & assessment, closed the ceremony by offering words of advice and gratitude.

GISD graduations will be held June 1-3 at the Curtis Culwell Center.
