Students from Shorehaven Elementary School spread holiday cheer throughout the community this December. The campus’ K-Kids club donated and delivered gifts to multiple senior centers in Garland.
“The goal of the club is to teach students about community service and giving back to their school and the community,” said sponsor and School Resource Officer Don Koerner.
As fourth and fifth-graders, Shorehaven’s K-Kids learn to serve through several fundraisers and volunteer projects each year. This fall, the club organized a hygiene item drive, collecting toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and more. Donations were then gathered into care packages just in time for the holiday season. Shorehaven’s K-Kids board members hand-delivered the gifts to area senior citizens Dec. 9. Getting more than they gave, students received smiles, hugs and even a few stories in return.
