Summer school

We offer summer school programs designed to serve the educational needs of a variety of students. Some are "traditional" summer school classes, some are special programs, and others are presented in a "day camp" format.

Please note: Not all programs are available to all students. Any questions about your child's need for summer school programming should be directed to the guidance counselor on your child's campus.

Pre-K and Kindergarten ELL Summer School program

The Pre-K/KN ELL Summer School Program is open to all PK and Kindergarten students currently participating in a bilingual or ESL program, as well as any participating bilingual or ESL 1st grader who are being retained in 1st grade for the 2018-2019 school year.

Dates: Monday - Friday from  June 12 - July 3

Time: 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Elementary Summer School Program

By Invitation OnlyCurrent grade 5 Garland ISD students who were not successful on the second administration of the STAAR Math and/or Reading test. 

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 12 - June 27

Locations: Back, Daugherty, Handley

Middle School Summer School Program

By Invitation Only - Current grade 8 Garland ISD students who were not successful on the second administration of the STAAR Math and/or Reading test.

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 12 - June 27

Locations: Houston, Bussey, Austin

AVID Excel Summer Bridge

By Invitation Only - Goal is to increase ELL student language acquisition in order for students to achieve greater success in the classroom. The program serves ELL students entering 7th and 8th grade for the 2018-19 school year.

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 12 - June 22

Locations: Austin, Bussey, Houston

AVID Math Summer Bridge

The AVID Math Summer Bridge is an enrichment program open to AVID students who will be in grades 7 and 8 in the fall of 2018. It is designed for students interested in learning math concepts with increased rigor and must be recommended by their math teacher.

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 12 - June 22

Locations: Austin Academy, Houston MS, Bussey MS

Incoming 9th Grade

Current grade 8 Garland ISD students who will enter grade 9 in 2018-2019 and are in need of courses for advancement.

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 13 - June 28

Locations: Naaman Forest HS, Lakeview Centennial HS, Sachse HS

High School EOC Intervention Program

By Invitation only - Current grade 9-11 Garland ISD students in need of additional academic support to meet EOC testing requirements in core subject areas (Biology, Algebra I, English I, English II, and/or U.S. History).

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 13 – June 22, EOC Testing June 25 – June 28

Locations: Naaman Forest HS, Lakeview Centennial HS, Sachse HS

High School Accelerated Program (9th-12th Grade Courses)

AIP Criteria: Garland ISD students who are in danger of not graduating on time, are failing for the year, or are having difficulty meeting the 4x4 requirements for graduation will have the opportunity to participate in credit recovery. 

AAP Criteria: Garland ISD students who are having difficulty meeting the 4x4 requirements for graduation or who want to get ahead.

June Summer School

Dates: Monday - Friday from June 13 - June 28

Scholar's Academy

By Invitation Only - Top five scoring sophomores on the Fall 2016 PSAT from every Garland ISD high school and 2017 Garland ISD Superintendent’s Scholars.

Students invited to participate in the 2017 Scholar's Academy Summer Program to prepare for the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test need to first register online. Please check back for registration link and deadline.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Summer Bridge program

Available to Pre-K students who do not qualify for the ELL summer program and attend non paid Pre-K programs. Kindergarten students who do not qualify for ELL summer program and who score below 30% on MAP middle or end of year testing qualify as well. This program provides math and literacy skills to help prepare students for the next school year. Campuses will contact qualifying students.
