Over the last six weeks, a calendar committee has been working to create school calendar recommendations that consider the wants and needs of our diverse tri-city area. As a result of their time and dedication, the committee has drafted two calendar options for both school years under consideration: 2022-2023 and 2023-2024
On August 24, the Garland ISD Board of Trustees approved a measure to temporarily require indoor masks at all Garland ISD schools, facilities and district-provided transportation. This temporary mask requirement expires on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Dear Garland ISD Families:
Gov. Greg Abbott signed SB15 legislation into law Thursday, Sept. 9. This allows GISD to open the ICON Virtual School program for kindergarten through sixth grade. SB15 would fund and accredit ICON, under specific guidelines. Please note that Pre-K is not eligible for fully funded remote learning under SB15. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released an update on SB15. Please review this important information online at TEA Senate Bill Update.
Dear Garland ISD Families and Community:
Garland ISD is committed to a strong partnership and open communication with our parents and community. As the district’s guiding force, the Board of Trustees has courageously led us during this unprecedented pandemic. For more than a year and a half, they have made tough decisions in the best interest of students and staff. This week’s board meeting was no exception.
To promote the safety of students and staff, Garland ISD is offering a one-time stipend to district employees who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Participation is voluntary and based on employees’ personal preferences. Details: garlandisd.net/vaxstipend
Based on GISD Board approval, starting Wednesday, Sept. 1, students, staff and visitors are required to wear face masks indoors at all GISD schools and facilities, as well as on buses, regardless of vaccination status. This temporary mask requirement is subject to medical, religious and/or philosophical exceptions for students and medical and/or religious exceptions for staff through Tuesday, Oct. 26, or until further guidance is provided.
Dear Garland ISD Families:
We have heard your concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 in our campuses, particularly in our elementary schools. Starting Monday, Aug. 23, Garland ISD will launch a parent-led temporary virtual learning (TVL) option for students in prekindergarten through sixth grade. We want to emphasize that this is a short-term option.
Based on the Texas Supreme Court ruling on Sunday, August 15, masks are no longer mandated in Garland ISD. The district strongly encourages all staff and students to wear masks to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
GISD is committed to keeping our students and staff safe. The school district has put several protocols in place to make each building a healthy environment.
